Obituary: Herbert S. "Herb" Potter, 95, Port Allegany

Herbert S. “Herb” Potter, 95, of Port Allegany, PA, formerly of Potter Brook, died Saturday, November 11, 2017 in Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport, PA.  Born November 10, 1922, in Westfield, PA, he was the son of Orville and Alice Patton Potter.  A 1941 graduate of Westfield High School, he served honorably in World War II with the Third Armored Division, US Army in the European Theatre.  On February 6, 1942, in Harrison Valley, he married the former Elberta L. Truax, who predeceased him on March 31, 2017.  Herb owned and operated the State Farm Agency in Westfield and was a rural mail carrier for many years.  He was a 60-year member of Westfield Masonic Lodge #477, F&AM, life member of Howard S. Lines VFW Post #6753 in Knoxville, Frank Burt American Legion Post #258 in Port Allegany, and the Rural Letter Carrier’s Association.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Surviving are:  two children, Betty Lou (James) Frost of Wilmington, NC and William (Merilee) Potter of Port Allegany;  five grandchildren;  seven great-grandchildren;  a great-great-granddaughter;  nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by five brothers, Earl Potter, Merle Potter, Elwin Potter, Homer O. “Pete” Potter and Charles “Buck” King.  Friends may call at the Olney Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Ulysses, PA on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m., with Funeral Services following at 2:00 p.m.  The Rev.
