New York State Troopers from the Bath barracks announce the
arrest of a man from Colorado stemming from an investigation into a reported
fight in progress. Robert E. Hewitt, 48,
of Boulder, Colorado, was arrested on June 30th and charged with Menacing 2nd
Degree (a class “A” misdemeanor) and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree
(a class “A” misdemeanor). According to
State Police Investigator Brian W. Mayhew, it’s alleged that, during the
evening of June 30th, 2017, Hewitt became confrontational and aggressive
towards another truck driver parked next to his tractor-trailer in the Pilot
Travel Center in Kanona, New York. It
was alleged that, after being asked to reduce the noise coming from inside is
sleeping berth, Hewitt physically confronted the requesting driver and used a
wooden tire-thumper to repeatedly threaten the man with serious physical injury
or death. Arriving Troopers quickly
located and arrested Hewitt, who appeared intoxicated and had been the subject
of several other noise complaints to the management of the travel center prior
to the incident. Hewitt was arraigned in
the Town of Urbana Court before Judge Yahn and remanded to the Steuben County
Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 property bond. He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Bath
Court next week.
