William L. Burdsall, Sr: Loving
Husband, Father, Grandfather
William L. Burdsall, Sr., 89, of 1 Chamberlain Street, Cuba,
passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 5, 2017 at Buffalo General Hospital.
Born on January 24, 1928, in Olean, he was a son of Leon and
Mary Utter Burdsall. On January 18,
1975, in Olean he married the former Jennifer A. Sims who survives.
Bill was a graduate of Olean High School and Rider
University. He served in the United States
Air Force from 1951-55 and received the National Defense Service Medal and Good
Conduct Medal. His first brokerage job was for Bonbright Company in Bradford,
PA. He then went to work for E.F. Hutton
which later became Shearson Lehman in Olean where he worked until his
retirement.
Bill was a volunteer for the Allegany County Chapter of
Literacy Volunteers of America, a Coordinator for Allegany-Cattaraugus Special
Olympics for 35 years, a board member of the Olean Rehabilitation Center for 35
years, was a board member for the Cattaraugus County Mental Health Association,
and was on the fund raising committee for the Cuba Circulating Library’s
Expansion in the late 90’s.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, canoeing,
and cross country skiing. Surviving in addition to his wife Jennifer of Cuba
are his children Thomas J. (Mandy) Burdsall of Virginia, Jeffrey W. (Darcy
Wilbur) Burdsall of Geneva, Michael A. (Alberta) Burdsall of Waterloo, NY, Mary Margaret Lohman of Geneva, William L.
(Amy) Burdsall, Jr. of Rochester, Kristen
(Steve) Huston of Cuba and Erin Burdsall
of Cuba; 8 Grandchildren and 3 great grandson; 2 Nephews, Rick (Barbara)
Laverty of Cuba and Bruce
(Carole) Laverty of Olean. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a
sister Dorthye Laverty.
The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker
Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba, on Friday, June
9, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, June 10, 2017 from 10-11:00 a.m. at
which time funeral services will be held.
