Rep. Tom Reed (R-Corning) may or may not begin carrying a concealed weapon following last weeks attack in Virginia on many, including a senior Congressman. Reed was peppered with questions by reporters this afternoon during his weekly media call. Recently, WNY Congressman Chris Collins said he'll start packing heat under his jacket during events in his district. Reed was elusive in his response to several reporters. "I'm a firm believer in the 2nd amendment and the fundamental right to defend yourself. But I'm not gonna comment on my personal position to carry a weapon," Reed told reporters. He added, "security has been discussed in our office. When it comes to carrying a weapon, I believe in that right...I support that right, but we don't comment on our security measures."
In a related question, Reed was critical of now former CBS news anchor Scott Pelley who apparently indicated that Pelly the other day laid some of the blame on shooting victim Scott Scalise. " Scott Pelley, I believe his name is..." Okay. Pause. Congressman Reed...you're actually suggesting that you don't know the name of a major national news anchor? Really? If you know don't the names of major broadcast news anchors, get new staff! Reed continued," It is deplorable. That is despicable human behavior...(Pelley) should never be allowed to employed in the media again...not acceptable." Congressman-your comments are fine, but you really didn't know the name of Scott Pelley, CBS evening news anchor and from 60 minutes? Again, if you didn't...get some new staff.
