The bill would require that the use of steel for all state
contracts over $100,000 for the construction, reconstruction, alteration,
repair, maintenance or improvement of any public works be made in the United
States. In addition, the bill states
that contracts worth $1 million or more for state-funded road and bridge
projects use American iron and steel in most cases.
“The manufacturing of iron and steel in the U.S. means
guaranteed jobs for thousands of people,” said Senator Young. “The more jobs we keep here, the more the
manufacturing sector will grow which in turn creates even more jobs and drives
more money back into the economy. We must
do all we can to preserve and increase good-paying manufacturing jobs. This bill will directly and positively impact
our national, state and local economy and ultimately our own prosperity.”
The bill will be sent to the Governor.
