Daniel R. Kightlinger, Sr.“the Ole Boy”
PORT ALLEGANY, PA---Daniel R. Kightlinger, Sr., 83, of Port
Allegany, formerly of Coudersport, passed away at home on Wednesday, May 31,
2017, after a short illness.
Born on July 3, 1933 in Meadville, he was a son of Paul and
Marion Roae Kightlinger. On November 29,
1952 in St. Hippolyte Church, Frenchtown, he married Mary Lou “Sis” Dunn, who
passed away on January 6, 1997.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School. Dan served during the Korean War in the U.S.
Army Airborne Division. After the war he
was employed as a cement truck driver.
He then was a gas station operator and later was a Chevy dealer in
Cochranton along with being a farmer. In
1978, Dan along with his family, purchased the former Robbins Chevrolet Garage
in Coudersport, changing the name to Kightlinger Motors, which he operated
until his retirement. The business continues to be proudly owned and operated
by his family. During his lifetime, he
also was an equipment operator and a race car driver.
Dan was a member and board member of the Heritage Hall of
the Coudersport Golf Club for many years.
He was a member of the Coudersport Rotary Club for many years. He was an avid golfer, hunter, Buffalo Bills
fan, and Pittsburgh Pirates fan. He
enjoyed playing NASCAR euchre at lunch with the techs at the shop and also
enjoyed mowing grass.
Surviving are two sons, Daniel R. “Dan” (Kim) Kightlinger,
Jr. of Coudersport and Joseph R. “Joe” (Lisa) Kightlinger of Port Allegany; a
daughter, Kay A. Bohn of Coudersport; twelve grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren;
four brothers, Mark (Sherry) Kightlinger of Meadville, Tom (Carol) Kightlinger
of Conneaut Lake, Ben (Sandy) Kightlinger of Meadville, and Paul (Sherry)
Kightlinger of Marion, NC; a sister, Debbie (Dave) Wade of Cambridge Springs;
and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dan was predeceased by
a son-in-law, Joseph M. “Joe” Bohn.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial Mass of
Christian Burial at 6pm on Friday, July 7, 2017 in St. Eulalia Catholic Church,
Coudersport, with the Rev. James C. Campbell, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Eulalia Catholic
Cemetery, Coudersport.
Family and friends are also invited to a celebration of
Dan’s life which will be held at 1pm on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at the
Coudersport Golf Club.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to a charity of the
donor’s choice.
Dan’s family has entrusted his care to the Virgil L. Howard
