Obituary: Mary Royce Gayford, 77, Fillmore


Fillmore --- Mary Royce Gayford of 36 S. Genesee Street died Sunday, February 12, 2017 in her home. She was born on June 8, 1939 in Angelica, a daughter of the late Otis and Isabelle Woodruff Royce. On June 29, 1957 she married Gary Gayford who survives. Mary was a graduate of Angelica Central School, class of 1957.  While there, she participated in the band, debate club, and she was also a cheerleader for basketball.
In 1960, she and Gary bought a house on South Genesee Street in Fillmore. They have lived there ever since. 
She worked at many local companies, including Fillmore Central School, Fillmore Hotel, Jubilee Grocery Store, and Robeson's Appliances in Castile.  She also cooked and tended bar at the Birdsall Inn for her sister Thelma.
Surviving in addition to her husband are their two sons, Norman (Mary) Gayford, of Warsaw, Bradley (Gina) Gayford of Rochester, three grandchildren, Ian (Samantha) Gayford, Margaret Gayford, and Cameron Gayford and a niece special to her, Debbie Ellwood, as well as many nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a brother Walter Royce and two sisters, Lucille Scott and Thelma Bennett.
At Mary's request there will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
