Obituary: John S. Edgley, age 63, of Riviera Beach, Florida - Wellsville native

John S. Edgley, age 63, of Riviera Beach, Florida passed away on January 29, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on February 6, 1960 in Wellsville, NY, John was the third son of Joseph and Lillian Edgley.  John graduated in 1978 from Wellsville High School and from there he continued his education at Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania.

In the early 1980’s, he followed his older brothers to South Florida.  Soon after his arrival, he was employed at Howard Funeral Home.  He enjoyed working there and was a very dedicated employee.  It was at this time, John realized that the funeral home business was a career that he would like to pursue.  John began taking classes in Miami and soon became a licensed funeral director and embalmer.  In the 1990’s, John enjoyed a decade long career at UPS.  His likable and vibrant personality allowed him to make long lasting friendships with the many people he met on his route.

In 2003, John decided it was time to follow his true passion.  He proudly opened Edgley Cremation Services.  Through his work, he touched countless lives and helped many people during their darkest hour.  He was compassionate and treated everyone with kindness.  His professionalism and caring ways were just two of the many reasons his business was so successful.  He also owned and operated two additional businesses in the Palm Beaches:  Crime Site Restoration and Palm Beach Removals.

John was one of the hardest working individuals his friends and family have ever known.  He was dedicated, committed and never complained about the long and arduous hours.  However, he was always ready for a fun night out.  He enjoyed going to his favorite restaurant UTiki, where he loved to mingle with friends and fight to pay the bill.  John truly was loved by all who knew him.  In his free time, he loved watching all sports, especially the Buffalo Bills, and relaxing in the mountains of North Carolina.

John is survived by his brothers Joe (Molly), Mike (Debbi), his sister Linda and his two daughters Jordan and Jensen.  In addition, he also leaves behind four loving nieces, one nephew, and his girlfriend Melissa.

Though he may no longer be with us, his spirit will continue to shine brightly through the lives he touched and the love he shared.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hospice of Palm Beach County, 5300 East Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL  33407.
