Michael H. “Uncle Mike” Simons:  Loving Uncle and Brother

Michael H. “Uncle Mike” Simons, 101, of 5870 Old State Road, Belmont, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024 at home.

Born on May 24, 1922, in Belvidere, he was a son of Charles Gilbert and Jennie Townsend Simons.

He was a graduate of Belmont High School.  After high school he served in the United States Army as a Surgical Technician from November 19, 1942 until December 20, 1945.  He worked mainly in sterilization of operating room equipment and clothing and maintained medical equipment.

After his military service he worked upstate for a while building ammunition bunkers.  He then returned home and began working for the New York State Department of Transportation in Friendship until his retirement.

He was an avid gardener, raised roosters, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He spent a lot of his time caring for his nieces and nephews, and was proud to have lived his whole life in the homestead where he was born.

He is survived by 2 Nieces, Alice (Harry) Hurd of Cuba, Sandy Shawl of Cuba, Ruth Shawl of Friendship.

Many great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by 2 brothers Glen Simons and George Simons and 2 Sisters Genevieve Brown and Estella Simons.

The family will receive friends at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street, Cuba on Sunday, April 21, 2024 from 1-2 P.M.  Funeral Services will begin in the funeral home at 2:00P.M.  The Pastor Claudia Little, will officiate.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Friendship, New York.
