Alfred: Hot Dog Day to be celebrated Saturday

Alfred’s annual Hot Dog Day celebration will be celebrated on Saturday, April 20. Alfred State first-year EOP student Renee Kintner (Olean) had her design selected to be featured on the Hot Dog Day t-shirts.

Kintner, an agricultural technology major, was excited to highlight her creativity when she entered the annual design contest. “It was quite challenging at first, but through trial and error, my design represents the spirit of Hot Dog Day. My excitement is out of control with pride and joy, knowing that my artwork will not only add playful fun to this amazing event but also connect with attendees in a meaningful way.”

Kintner’s design centers around two playful characters, Mr. Mustard, and Mr. Hot Dog. Mr. Mustard is eagerly trying to add more mustard while Mr. Hot Dog is running away, saying that is enough.

Activities begin in the morning at 9 a.m. with a 5K run/walk starting at the Alfred University Bandstand. Weiner Dog Races start at 10:30 in the Bandstand Lawn while the Hot Dog Day Parade starts at Noon and runs from S. Main Street to Church Street.

The Alfred State Carnival begins at 1 p.m. The Carnival will feature rides, games, and a variety of food options. The Carnival is in Parking Lot 3, which is in between the Student Leadership Center and the Townhouses, runs until 5 p.m.

Afternoon activities also include a vendor fair on Main Street and in the Community Bank parking lot from Noon to 5 p.m. There will be live music at the Bandstand and at the Carnival, and there will be a zip line and dunk tank in the Jordan Hall parking lot. At 7:30 p.m. a Paint & Powder Park will be held on Brick Lawn.

Proceeds from Hot Dog Day 2024 will be given to A.E. Crandall Hook & Ladder, Alfred Montessori School, Alfred State Fire Co., Allegany County Mental Health Association, The Box of Books Library, The ARC Allegany-Steuben, The Allegany-Cattaraugus-Chautauqua Fund for Women, and the Lustgarten Foundation.

Hot Dog Day was established in 1972 and has been a way for area students to give back to the local community. For more information, please visit the Hot Dog Day Facebook page.
