LIVINGSTON COUNTY- Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty advises of an update to last night’s incident involving an investigation that began at Strong Memorial Hospital.
On April 4th, 2024, Patrick J. Steinmetz was arrested and charged with three counts of felony Criminal Sex Act in the Third Degree, felony Aggravated Patronizing a Minor for Prostitution in the Third Degree, felony Promoting an Obscene Sexual Performance by a Child and felony Use of a Child in a Sexual Performance. This followed an investigation alleging that Steinmetz sexually abused a child less than seventeen years old.
At that time, Steinmetz was remanded to the custody of the Sheriff without bail due to him having two or more prior felony convictions.
On April 5th, 2024, Steinmetz suffered a medical issue that caused him to be transported to Strong Memorial Hospital. While at the hospital, the Sheriff’s Office maintained around the clock custody of Steinmetz utilizing members of the Jail Division. While being treated at the hospital, his medical condition changed. On April 12th , 2024, pursuant to an order of the Court, Steinmetz was released from the custody of the Sheriff’s Office with stipulations that the release be reviewed regularly, in accordance with his medical condition.
On April 13th 2024, at about 6:00pm, the Sheriff’s Office received information that Steinmetz left Strong Memorial Hospital. Recognizing the severity of the crimes charged, the Sheriff’s Office made contact with the Court and a securing order was issued for Steinmetz remanding him back to the custody of the Sheriff without bail.
Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators responded to Strong Memorial Hospital, and despite a search by multiple Law Enforcement agencies, it was believed that Steinmetz was no longer on hospital grounds. Investigators and Deputies worked into the early morning hours and eventually located Steinmetz at a residence in the City of Rochester where he was taken into custody without incident.
Assisting with the investigation were members of the Rochester Police Department, the University of Rochester Department of Public Safety, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the New York State Police and the Avon Police Department.
