Warsaw, N.Y.
- The Castile man who pleaded guilty to attacking the Wyoming County sheriff in
2018 has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.
Lynn Hall
appeared in court Thursday. In June, he pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted
murder for trying to kill Sheriff Greg Rudolph in December 2018.
As Rudolph
was driving to work the morning of the incident, Hall began tailgating him and
flashing his lights. When Rudolph pulled over, Hall blocked him in.
Hall
eventually got out of his vehicle and began fighting Rudolph, attempting to
take the sheriff's gun and eventually ending up on top of him and threatening
to kill him with a knife.
Good
Samaritans and State Police came to Rudolph's aid and helped take Hall into
custody.
Rudolph
says, the day before the attack, Hall had come to the Sheriff's Office to apply
for a pistol permit.
After the
attack, an AR-15 and a handgun were found in Hall's trunk. He had a permit for
the AR-15, but not the handgun.
Hall had
initially been ruled unfit to stand trial. He was later deemed competent, and
hearings began last September. Trial dates were pushed back due to COVID-19.
In addition to time behind bars, Hall was also sentenced to five years of post-release supervision. An order of protection was also issued through 2057.
