ANDOVER — The Andover Village Board is paving the way for some new roads in time for winter.
At last week’s meeting of Village Trustees, the board moved
ahead with road work that will focus primarily on North Main Street. The board
considered two bids, one from Wayne Paving at $67,500 and another from AL
Blades at $78,170, approving the low bid.
Department of Public Works chief Matt Zengerle reported the
village has funding available from the CHIPS, Pave NY, and Extreme Winter
programs. Zengerle noted that North Main was DPW’s top priority.
“North Main is shot. It hasn’t been kept up, and we’ve lost
it,” Zengerle said. “That’s not the only street we’ve lost, but we have a few
streets in the village we haven’t lost.”
The board considered spreading the funds around for use on
other roads. Trustee Bill Emery pointed out that several village roads are in
need of attention, particularly Water Street. Zengerle said DPW will address
hotspots around the village using millings recycled from the North Main Street
project.
“They’re going to go down three inches, so you’re going to
get a lot of millings. I’m trying to rob Peter to pay Paul, basically,”
Zengerle said. Read more...
