Andover: 27th Anniversary Annual Kids Fishing Contest Another Success Despite Mother Nature

The Andover Wetlands Annual Kids Fishing Contest celebrated its 27th    anniversary with another successful event.  There were 98 contestants in attendance from Andover as well as Alfred Station, Arkport, Addison, Greenwood, Wellsville, Scio, Belmont, Hornell, Cameron, Cameron Mills, Caneadea, Angelica, Richburg, Allentown, Fillmore, Jasper, Cuba, and Livonia. Portageville, Virginia, Delavan, Allentown, Kendall, Whitesville, Little Genesee and Ulysses, PA. 
Trophies were awarded in the following categories: 5 & under: First Place: Donavan Swain of Livonia with a 8 ¼ in 3.8 oz. Perch, Second Place: James Rhode of  Allentown with a 6 ¾  in 1.6 oz Bluegill and Third Place: Gemma Rouse of Wellsville, NY for a 6 ½  in 2.0 oz bluegill.  
Winners in the 6 – 8 age group were: First Place: Isabelle Seiger of Cameron Mills for a 18 ¼ in 2 lb 8 oz Carp and Second Place Dean Rhodes of Allentown with a 8 ½ in 4.2 oz Crappie and Third Place: Carter Lehman of Canisteo for a 6 ¾  in 2.2 oz Bluegill. 
In the 9-11 age group: First Place  Brooklyn Seiger of Cameron Mills for a 19 in 2 lb 6 oz Carp,  Second Place: Brody Carlin of Wellsville with a 18 ¾ in 2 lb 6 oz  Carp, and Third Place: Kaelyn Capute of Andover for a 17 ¼  in 2 lb  Carp.
For the 12 – 15 age group: First Place: Brandy Seager of Cameron Mills with a 19 ¼  in 2 lb   9 oz Carp, Second Place: Alexis Patrick of Hornell for a 12 ¾  in 1 lb  1 oz Bass, Third Place: Ethan MacCrea of Andover, for a 12 ½  in 1lb 1 oz Bass.
Trophies were also presented for Largest Fish: Marcus Frazier of Portageville for a 14 ¾  in  15.8 oz Sucker,  Smallest Fish: Gavin Frungello of Andover for a 4 in .6 oz Bluegill. Most Fish: Carson Frungello of Andover with  45 fish.  Other categories were won Largest Bass – Austin Cooper of Andover for a 1 lb 15 oz 17 in Bass, the Largest Carp – Paul Giavanello for a 3 lb 8 oz 21 ¼  in Carp.
 The annual Jess Present/Pat McGee Memorial Sportsmanship Award given in memory of the late Senators for their tireless work and dedication to the Andover Wetlands Project.  Both the Senators were avid outdoors people and believed in the preservation of recreational habitat.  This year’s winner, Grayson Bernside.
Special thanks go to Pepsi Cola of Elmira and Frito Lay of Olean as the corporate sponsors for all their help.  Also, Charlie Joyce and Otis Eastern Corporation together with Burger King of Wellsville,  Richard Joyce, Pam & John Gena, Maier’s Market of Andover, Stroehman’s of Olean and Wal-Mart, Tops Markets, Wegman’s, Giant Food Mart of Wellsville, and Larry’s Latrines of Hornell for their donations.  The trophies were provided by the Town of Andover and Sports Fanatic of Hornell.

The 2019 Kids Fishing Contest will be held on August 17th.
