Sex offender from Olean to remain in civil confinement -Appellate Court considers him "dangerous"

A Cattaraugus County sex offender will remain in civil confinement under the Mental Hygiene Law. In 2016, a Cattaraugus County judge ruled that the defendant, listed only as Steven M. Jr., had a "mental abnormality" and was considered a dangerous sex offender requiring confinement at a secure treatment facility. A New York Appellate court agreed with the findings of the Cattaraugus County judge and ordered that the offender must remain in confinement. The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s office.
