Rick Gallant Suspends Campaign for Congress

PAINTED POST, N.Y. — Rick Gallant, Democratic candidate in New York's 23rd Congressional District issued this statement announcing the suspension of his campaign:
"It is with a heavy heart that I am announcing the suspension of my campaign for Congress in NY’s 23rd District. I would like to sincerely thank all of those who have supported me in the past year—it means the world to me. I have had the privilege of meeting the wonderful people of NY 23 and will cherish every moment spent getting to know so many amazing citizens.

After much deliberation, I accept that the challenge of raising the necessary money and resources to sustain a viable run for office has placed too great a burden on my family. We are not independently wealthy and simply can not afford the endeavor. Until campaign finance laws in the nation change, ordinary working people like myself will find the challenge of running for office is often insurmountable.

I wish the remaining candidates the best of luck and promise to put my full effort behind the winner of the primary because I believe the people of the 23rd deserve fair and honest representation."

Golden Campaign Responds to Gallant Campaign Suspension

On Wednesday evening, at the Congressional Meet and Greet hosted by the Corning City Democrats, Rick Gallant announced he would be suspending his campaign for the 23rd Congressional District. Citing difficulty in raising campaign funds, Gallant was the latest congressional candidate to step down, bringing the remaining number of Democratic primary contenders down to five.
“It has been great getting to know Rick throughout this campaign,” Golden said. “We shared a commitment to fight for our unions and worker rights, and I am honored to carry that fight forward in this race.”
