Wellsville Police Officer Retires - Department Remains At Full Strength

A Wellsville police officer retired Tuesday. Patrolman Tory Rounds joined the Wellsville force, full time, in the Fall of 2014. However, Rounds had been with the Department as a part time officer for many years. Prior to coming to Wellsville, Rounds was a full time officer in Alfred. Wellsville leaders called Rounds a "valued employee who will be missed." Police Chief Tim O'Grady said the vacancy will be filled...in fact, he said, it already has been. Effective November 6th, officer Justin Zajicek will begin as a temporary full time officer. O'Grady said there are no benefits while he is a temporary worker. In addition, while Rounds was on the upper tier pay scale, Zajicek will begin at the base rate or lowest rate. The police chief said he wants to examine the civil service list before recommending a permanent appointment to the village board. Zajicek has also worked as a part time Belmont police officer.
Rounds has accepted a new position at Alfred University.
