Allegany/Cattaraugus Boces students receive Krieger scholarship

OLEAN, NY—Three Allegany and Cattaraugus counties BOCES students recently received the Wayne Krieger Memorial Scholarship. Kurt Miller, Sierra Hendrickson and Nicholas Kozlowski are the 2017 Wayne Krieger Memorial Scholarship recipients.
Established in 2014 with the Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation, the Wayne Krieger Memorial Scholarship provides three $750 scholarships annually, one each to a student at the Belmont, Olean and Ellicottville BOCES campuses who is planning to pursue a degree in criminal justice.

Miller, a Franklinville Central School/Ten Broeck Academy graduate, will study criminal justice at Finger Lakes Community College. Cuba-Rushford Central School’s Sierra Hendrickson will pursue a degree in criminal justice at Jamestown Community College. Nicholas Kozlowski, a Portville Central School graduate, also will study criminal justice at Jamestown Community College.

Established by his family, the scholarship memorializes Wayne Krieger of Delevan who served as a Cattaraugus County sheriff’s deputy. Mr. Krieger was the department’s first canine officer and also acted as an officer for the DARE program. He passed away in 2010.
