Shirley Yvonne Haskins Foster of Whitesville, NY passed away
at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY on June 3, 2017 after a brief
illness.
Shirley was born on October 31, 1935 to Dorothy (Duell) and
Norval L. Haskins Sr., in Coudersport, PA. On October 13, 1956 in Westfield,
PA, she married Eugene Foster.
Shirley was a graduate of Cowanesque Valley High School in
1954.
Prior to her marriage, she worked at Lincoln Rochester Bank
in Corning, NY. In 1995, Shirley retired from First Federal Savings and Loan in
Wellsville, NY.
Shirley was a past president of the Wellsville Chamber of
Commerce, served on the Board of Directors for Allegany Country Cooperative
Extension Services, was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and
served as a member of the Shongo United Methodist Church in her earlier years.
Shirley was pre-deceased by her husband of 57 years and she
passed away on what would have been his 85th birthday. Her parents and an
infant daughter also pre-deceased her.
Surviving are her daughter Jane, of Shongo, her son, Doug,
of Shongo, her grand-daughters, Tiffany (Eric) Miller of Andover, Liz Kellogg
of Seattle, WA and Cait Kellogg of Washington, DC. Preston and Anderson Miller
are her great-grandsons. Several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law,
Virginia Bassett, also survive.
Sewing, cooking, gardening, and social media were her
hobbies.
Shirley will be missed as the anchor of her family, a friend
and confidant, and an outspoken advocate of her beliefs.
A celebration of her life will take place at the Millstone
Farm on 4160 Back River Road in Scio, NY on Wednesday, June 7 at 1 p.m. Friends
and family are invited to attend. Interment of her ashes will be at a private
ceremony at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of J. W. Embser
Sons Funeral Home.
