Lorraine A. Hawkins, 84, of 4006 Youngs Road, Cuba, NY
passed away on Friday, June 16, 2017, surrounded by loving friends and family.
Born December 12th, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Bessie
Dechow of Randolph, NY.
Lorraine was a member of Fresh Fire Church, the Daughters of
the American Revolution, and Aglow International. She worked at the Salamanca
Press, and was a gifted artisan, horticulturist, and interior designer.
Lorraine was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Dechow, a
grandson, Shawn Forness, and a niece, Jodi Hilts.
Surviving are her husband, Richard Hawkins, of Cuba, NY, six
children: Rebecca (Ervin) Rhodes of Columbus, OH, Beth (Raymond) Dennis of
Angelica, NY, Nathan (Dru) Wright of Houston, TX, Tracy Wright of Cuba, NY, Fay
Wymer of Rushford, NY, and Troy (Cheryl) Wright of Belfast, NY, 18
grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and two brothers: Larry (Marsha) Dechow,
and Donald (Nancy) Dechow, both of Randolph, NY.
Lorraine was a quiet woman, full of wisdom and known for her
strong Christian faith. She had a remarkable talent for working with flower
arrangements, and enjoyed her gardens, artisan projects, and a good cup of tea.
She had a brilliant gift for arranging colors, and saw beauty in the most
unlikely places. She dedicated many years of her life to helping others, even
so far as opening her own home to women in need of family.
“Nana,” as she was fondly known, will be dearly missed. Her
perseverance, prayerful life, and Christ-like attitude will forever be an
example to imitate.
Visitations will be held from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m.
on Sunday, June 18, 2017, and a funeral service will be held on Monday, June
19, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., both at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial
Service, Inc., 9 Bull Street in Cuba, NY.
The Rev. Robert E. Goode, will
officiate. Donations in Lorraine’s honor may be made to Fresh Fire Church and
Aglow International.
