Allegany Arc- 5k Run/Walk


Allegany Arc is holding their Sixth Annual Community 5K Run/Walk in Honor of Armed Forces Day on Saturday, May 20, 2017. There is a Kids Fun Run planned that will begin at 9:00am and runners/walkers will begin at 9:30am. The starting point is Allegany Arc’s Shine Facility at 240 O’Connor Street in Wellsville, New York.

Heather Perkins, Event Chairperson, said “We are very thankful for the amazing amount of support we have received from not only sponsors for the event but also people participating and volunteering. We already have over 100 people registered and are hoping even more will join us.” 
Proceeds from the Community 5K Run/Walk benefit Allegany Arc’s Witkowski Development Project. The Witkowski Development Project located at 2718 Andover Road in Wellsville will be an inclusive outdoor recreation center for individuals served by Allegany Arc. Year three of the project is complete and included the construction of a storage shed for recreational equipment storage and several wheelchair accessible picnic tables.
Allegany Arc’s 5 – 10 year plan includes the development of a softball field, hiking trails, camping area, playground, soccer field, and many other activity areas to be used by Allegany Arc Recreation Groups, Allegany County Special Olympics, Allegany Arc employees, and people that receive services through Allegany Arc; with a vision of being able to offer these facilities to various other community and civic groups.
Heather Perkins said, “It is such an honor to be holding our Sixth Annual Community 5K Run/Walk. It is a great opportunity to not only raise money for a cause so close to our hearts but to also reflect our gratitude to all the brave men and women who serve our country on a daily basis. That is why we decided to hold our 5K on Armed Forces Day.”
