Mr. Lehman was born on Sept. 27, 1936 in Andover to Harold
and Fanny (Taylor) Lehman. He was a 1954 graduate of Andover Central School.
Charlie served in the United States Army from 1954-1958.
After his time in the service, Charlie worked for
Dresser-Rand in Wellsville in various capacities, most notably in the shipping
department, retiring in 1998 after 35 years of service.
Charlie is survived by two sons, Donald Lehman of Andover
and Jimmy (Paula) Lehman of Campbell; five daughters, Christina (Steve) Phelps
of Scio, Brenda Capluzzi of Smithfield, N.C., Sue (Dennis) Yarbrough of
Raleigh, N.C., and Toni (Larry) Wilson and Lisa Lehman, both of Willow Springs,
N.C.; three sisters, Hazel Cornell and Marylou (Wendell) Bennett, both of
Andover, and Darlene (Mike) Willis of Wayland; and a brother-in-law, Edward
Ryan of Andover.
Additionally, he is survived by 11 grandchildren, Brandy
(Earl) Bizzell, Amanda (Ryan Dieter) Witter, Emily (Brandon Mulhollen)
Capluzzi, Allison Capluzzi, Alicia Nevol, Robert (Ashley) Nevol, Shannon
(Chris) Baker, D.J. (Courtney) Austin, Dylan Yarbrough, Alex Lehman and Dustin
Lehman; 12 great grandchildren, Chesney Lee, Jayden Dieter, Ethan Dieter,
Brayden Deiter, Preston Lehman, Patrick Lehman, Analiyah Wyatt, Brynna Nevol,
Joshua Baker, Zak Baker, Harlynn Austin and Jace Yarbrough; and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Michael Lehman, two brothers,
Carl “Pudge” Lehman and Jimmy Lehman; one sister, Lois Ryan; and one grandson,
Eric Lehman.
Charlie lived an active life. He was an avid hunter and
fisherman. Charlie was a lifelong sports enthusiast. In high school he
especially enjoyed basketball. As an adult, Charlie played on various summer
slow pitch softball leagues, bowling leagues and he took up the sport of golf.
As a spectator, he was a huge Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres and Boston Red Sox
fan. Additionally, he was a proud member of the Wellsville American Legion,
Wellsville VFW and the Wellsville Moose Lodge.
Charlie loved spending time with his family. One of his
favorite past times was driving the back roads with his family looking for
deer. He enjoyed the many vacations they took together and the various outings
to the zoo and the beach. He especially enjoyed the ocean off North Carolina.
Charlie looked forward to family gatherings and cookouts. He had an especially
close relationship with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished
the times spent with them.
Visitation will be held on Saturday (July 15) from 2 p.m. to
4 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home in Andover. The memorial service will be held
on Saturday (July 15) at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home, immediately following
the visitation, with Rev. Chris Mattison of the Andover Presbyterian Church
officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
