SP Dunkirk- Fatal ambulance collision

On February 14, 2017 at 5:40 p.m., Troopers and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to a one-vehicle collision on State Route 5 in the Town of Dunkirk.  The vehicle involved, an EmergyCare ambulance traveling eastbound on State Route 5 left the roadway, entered a ditch and struck culvert.  The 49-year-old operator was taken to a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  The ambulance was transporting Arthur R. McArthur, 77 of Dunkirk, NY from University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Erie PA to a nursing home in Chautauqua County.  During this collision McArthur sustained life-threatening injuries and was deceased at the scene. 
This collision is still under investigation.  NYSP Collision Reconstruction Unit responded.
