Report Recommends Cleanup of former Corning Hospital site

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) is reviewing the Remedial Investigation Report that was submitted by The Guthrie Clinic and Corning Hospital ("applicants") for the Former Corning Hospital and Related Parcels site (“site”) located at 176 East Denison Pkwy. and 201 East First Street, Corning, Steuben County.
Contaminants identified include: 
• Trichloroethene (TCE), a chlorinated volatile organic compound (VOC) typically used as adegreasing solvent was found in site groundwater.
• Metals, including arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury in addition to semi-volatile organiccompounds including benzo(a)anthracene, chrysene and benzo(a)pyrene were found in sitesoils. These compounds can be related to past railroad or petroleum storage / distributionsite use.
