Wellsville, NY - Barbara J. Rushmore, age 77, of East Hanover Street passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the Wellsville Manor Care Center. She was born on May 12, 1939 in Vestal to Ernest and Alfaretta Ellis Brooker. Barbara was married to Clifford G. Carl and in 1989 she married Wallace Rushmore who predeceased her in 2005.
Barbara worked for the Vulcan Corporation making shoes in Johnson City. She then moved to Wellsville and was a cook in many area restaurants including the Wagon Wheel, Johnny’s Diner, and the Brass Balloon. Barbara was a life member of the VFW Post 2530 Women’s Auxiliary of Wellsville. She served as Post 2530 Women’s Auxiliary President, District President and New York State President. Barbara enjoyed cooking, bowling, bingo and she loved animals.
She is survived by her children, Judy (Dave) Mitchell of Shinglehouse, PA., Caryn (Brad) Shaver of Sandusky, OH., Douglas (Theresa) Carl of Wellsville, Brian (Della) Carl of Wellsville, Donald Carl of Wellsville, Jeff (Nicol) Carl of Wellsville; her step children, Gregory Rushmore of Colorado and Sherry Clark of Wellsville; 19 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren; a brother, Ernest (Carol) Brooker of Endicott.
She was predeceased by her two husbands, a great grandson, Dylon Mitchell, and a great granddaughter, Erin Lorshbough.
Friends are invited to call on Friday, February 17, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the J.W.Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Funeral Home with Pastor Dick Helms presiding.
