Wellsville: Town offices may leave Municipal Building - won't join Village though

A top Wellsville town official said this morning that town offices may exit the Municipal Building, but they won't join with the village in a future move.
Last night, the village board voted to leave the Municipal Building with plans to relocate to 23 North, the former Burrous building now under renovation at 23 North Main Street. Mayor Randy Shayler said last night the village must still iron out some legal issues before any move by the Village. No timeline was given.
Town Supervisor Shad Alsworth told Wellsville Regional News this morning that "I'm glad they (the village) were able to work something out. It is unfortunate that the Town was unable to also occupy the space." When plans were first announced about the Burrous building renovation, it was widely hinted that both the village and town offices would move in and occupy the first floor, while apartments would be located on the second and third floors. Since then, Alfred Housing Committee, a co-owner of 23 North, decided it would also move its offices to the new building. Town officials said recently that there wouldn't be enough space for all three entities on the first floor.
Alsworth said "the town has another plan in motion that will better suit our needs and will provide the necessary access that our senior citizens and disabled constituency deserve." Alsworth added "this will take us a couple years to complete our plan, so we hope the Village will allow us to continue to occupy that space (currently in the Municipal Building) for the time being." The supervisor noted "the town has received no notice from the Village of their intentions for the Municipal Building. I am sure that the reason they have not answered our repeated question about the Municipal Building is due primarily to the fact they just negotiated the deal to occupy 23 North." The town board meets Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
