Wellsville legislator says NO to grant request

Allegany County legislators Wednesday afternoon gave the green light for Ardent Solution to apply for a Federal Transit Administration Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities grant. However, one Wellsville lawmaker wasn’t sold on the idea. This is the resolution legislators voted on:

WHEREAS, the grant funds would be used to purchase two wheelchair lift vans and would cover costs of New York State Department of Transportation certified drivers, program software, call center staff and administrative oversight and management; and

WHEREAS, if approved, there is a required local match of funds of 20 percent for capital expenses and 50 percent for operating expenses; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED:

1 That Ardent Solutions, Inc., the contracted entity for Allegany County Mobility Management, is authorized to act on behalf of the County of Allegany to apply for grant funds through Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Enhanced Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities Program.

County Administrator Carissa Knapp explained the program and process to the 13 legislators in attendance. During the vote, every GOP legislator approved the measure…except one. Gary Barnes (R-Wellsville) firmly voted against the plan. Barnes serves on the following standing committees: Planning & Economic Development, Public Safety, Public Works, Resource Management, Budget.
