Allegany County legislators Wednesday afternoon gave the
green light for Ardent Solution to apply for a Federal Transit Administration Enhanced
Mobility of Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities grant. However, one
Wellsville lawmaker wasn’t sold on the idea. This is the resolution
legislators voted on:
WHEREAS, the grant funds would be used to purchase two
wheelchair lift vans and would cover costs of New York State Department of
Transportation certified drivers, program software, call center staff and
administrative oversight and management; and
WHEREAS, if approved, there is a required local match of
funds of 20 percent for capital expenses and 50 percent for operating expenses;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED:
1 That
Ardent Solutions, Inc., the contracted entity for Allegany County Mobility Management,
is authorized to act on behalf of the County of Allegany to apply for grant
funds through Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Enhanced Mobility of Seniors
and Individuals with Disabilities Program.
County Administrator Carissa Knapp explained the program and
process to the 13 legislators in attendance. During the vote, every GOP
legislator approved the measure…except one. Gary Barnes (R-Wellsville) firmly
voted against the plan. Barnes serves on the following standing committees: Planning
& Economic Development, Public Safety, Public Works, Resource Management,
Budget.
