Dansville woman charged with vehicular manslaughter

CONESUS – Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Dansville resident on felony Vehicular Manslaughter and traffic charges following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

On December 3rd 2023, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Stagecoach Road in the Town of Conesus for the report of a one-car motor vehicle crash with serious injuries and a person trapped.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a vehicle being operated by Shiella Schledorn, age 60 of Dansville NY, was traveling northbound on Stagecoach Road when it left the east side shoulder of the roadway and struck a culvert. The vehicle then came to rest trapping Schledorn. A male passenger was in the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries.

Fire personnel extricated Schledorn from the vehicle and transported her to Strong Memorial Hospital. The male passenger, identified as 51 year-old Robert Alford of Dansville NY, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

On January 12th 2024, Sheriff’s Investigator Martin Herkimer arrested and charged Shiella Schledorn with one count of felony Vehicular Manslaughter in the Second Degree. Additionally, Deputy Michael Donals of the STOP DWI Unit charged Schledorn with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs Combination, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Third Degree and additional violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.

Schledorn was transported and turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for arrest processing and pre-arraignment detention. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regards to bail due to the felony level charge. It was recommended that bail be set at $20,000 cash or $50,000 bond. Schledorn was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Avon Town Justice Hoffman. The Judge did remand Schledorn to the custody of the Sheriff on the recommended $20,000 cash or $50,000 bond. The Livingston County Public Defender’s Office was present and represented Schledorn at the court arraignment for her defense. The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office was also present and represented the People.

Investigating for the Sheriff’s Office were members of the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Forensic Identification Unit and Communications Bureau.
