Details emerge in NY murder involving two Coudersport men

The story was first reported here, albeit without much content…now details are emerging after the Lewis County, NY Sheriff’s Office issued a press release regarding a murder…with ties to Potter County, PA.

It’s alleged that a Coudersport man killed his boss, also from Coudersport at River View Lodge in Lowville. After deputies received a call, they found Brandon J. Shepker, 39, of Coudersport, Pennsylvania, dead. Authorities said he had been sharing a room with an employee, Jacob M. Vanbergen, 24, also of Coudersport. According to a press release, deputies say Shepker’s injuries were “consistent with a physical altercation and strangulation.” Police and area residents said the two were known to go snowmobiling together. Vanbergen was arrested by the Pennsylvania State Police on a warrant for second-degree murder. He was remanded to Potter County Jail without bail and is awaiting extradition to New York.
