Applications open for the 2024 Summer BIPOC Residency The School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division at Alfred University welcomes applications for Summer 2024 BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) Artist-in-Residence program. The residency provides early-career BIPOC artists with time and space to dive deeply into their artistic research and practice, and creative endeavors.

School of Art & Design Welcomes New Randall Chair and Turner Teaching Fellow The School of Art & Design welcomes International Theodore Randall Chair Simeen Farhat and Robert C. Turner Teaching Fellow Eugene Ofori Agyei in the Spring semester 2024.

MFA Thesis Exhibitions and Senior Shows Save the Dates! Spring thesis exhibitions and senior shows are scheduled. MFA exhibitions will open every Saturday evening from April 6 -27, and Friday May 3, with receptions from 6-8pm on the first day of the exhibition. Senior Shows are scheduled to open with the annual large reception on Saturday, May 4 from 4-8pm.

SOAD Dean Lauren Lake named president of the National Council for Arts Administrators Lauren Lake, Michele and Marty Cohen Dean of Alfred University’s School of Art & Design + Performing Arts Division, recently was named president of the National Council of Arts Administrators (NCAA). Her two-year term began on Jan. 1.

Lauren Lake to Lead Workshop at the Burchfield Penny Art Center Lauren Lake, Dean of the School of Art and Design + Performing Arts Division at Alfred University, will lead a workshop at the Burchfield Penny Art Center in Buffalo, NY on Jan. 27 from 11 am-1:30 pm.

SOAD's Maria Bentley finds a treasure trove of up and coming young artists at Utah's Northridge High School Maria Bentley, Assistant Dean of Alfred University’s School of Art and Design + Performing Arts Division, recently traveled to Northridge High School, in Layton, Utah, to visit students and promote the University’s School of Art and Design.

Ten SOAD students to exhibit in Best of SUNY Art Exhibition Artwork by 10 undergraduate students in Alfred University’s School of Art and Design has been chosen for the Best of SUNY Art Exhibition, an annual display of art by State University of New York students across New York.

Hot Dog Day 2024 logo design contest now open The logo design contest for Hot Dog Day 2024 is now open for submissions. The winning design will adorn the Hot Dog Day t-shirts, posters, and other merchandise and paraphernalia celebrating next spring’s 52nd annual Hot Dog Day, scheduled for April 20, 2024.

BFA Alum Sharone Putter at Sarah Gormley Gallery Columbus-based artist, Sharone Putter a graduate from Alfred's School of Art and Design exhibition, , "Demarcations," is being exhibited at the Sarah Gormley Gallery in Columbus, OH from January 10th until February 10th.

Yikui (Coy) Gu Lecture Jan 18, 10:00 am - 11:00 am Scholes Library The artist, Yikui(Coy) Gu will present a lecture on their work on January 18, 2024 at 10:00am-11:00am in Scholes Library. The exhibition opening reception will follow later in the day from 5:30pm-7:30pm in the School Library Project Space.

Alfred Art Walk Jan 18, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Alfred, NY Alfred Art Walk is a collaborative monthly venture created by the galleries in the Village of Alfred and on the campuses of Alfred University and Alfred State College in an effort to foster dialogue within the local arts communities.

Arts Speaker Series: Noel Anderson Jan 18, 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm Powell Campus Center, Room Nevins Theater Arts Speaker Series presents Noel Anderson on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 4:30pm in Nevins Theater. Noel W. Anderson is an internationally recognized artist and professor whose work encompasses painting, printmaking, sculpture, and installation.

New Faculty Jan 18, 5:00 pm - Mar 17, 12:00 am Cohen Gallery Cohen Gallery presents: New Faculty, and exhibition featuring work by seven recently hired tenure-track professors: Rebecca Arday, Paul Briggs, Nicki Green, Stephanie Hanes, Anthony Nguyen in collaboration with Taryn Cassella, Kelsey Sucena, and Will Wheeler. The exhibition opens on Thursday, January 18, with a reception from 5 to 8pm, and will run through March 17.
