Obituary: Mavis A. "Allie" France, 81, Belfast

Mavis A. “Allie” FRANCE, 81, of Belfast, NY, died Sunday, January 21, 2024 in her daughter’s home surrounded by her family.  Born November 8, 1942, in the Thompson Maternity Home, Belmont, she was the daughter of Clifford Wayne and Alice R. Thornton Magee.  On January 14, 1961, in Belfast, she married Ceylon M. “Bud” France, who predeceased her on May 4, 2009.  A graduate of Belmont Central School, she earned her nurse’s aide certification from Cuba Memorial Hospital.  She was employed by Motorola and retired from Belfast Central School as a custodian after 22 years.  Allie enjoyed square dancing with the Friendship Swingers, gardening, fishing, and spending time with her family and her friends.  Surviving are:  three children, Mary (Ron) Abraham of Belfast, Paris (Merle “Cork”) Weiland of Grove City, PA, and Brian (Nikki) France of Fillmore;  six grandchildren, Lindsay (Anthony) Materkowski, Jessie (Michelle) Thompson, Logan (Corey) Glover, Stephen (Holly) Wagner, Samantha (Terry McCree) Weiland, and Sabrina (Stephen) Lingenfelter;  nine great-grandchildren, Raelie Cosme, Cole Lingenfelter, Ava Lingenfelter, Alexandria Materkowski, Smith Materkowski, Elinor Cook, Maddison Glover, Benjamin Glover, and Colt Glover;  a sister, Mary E. Swendsen of Caneadea;  and many nieces and nephews, who claimed her as their favorite aunt.  In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son-in-law, Michael Thompson;  and eight siblings, Marjorie E. Palmer, Marie E. Young, Maxine E. Beckwith, Marguerite A. Magee, Dale W. Magee, Gary L. Magee, Marilyn J. Brantley, and infant brother, Phillip Magee.  Friends may call Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at OLNEY-FOUST Funeral Homes & Cremation, Crowell Chapel, 296 North Main Street, Wellsville, NY, where Funeral Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 AM.  Rev. Jennifer Green will officiate.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast.  Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.wellsvillefuneralhome.com
