Alfred University Alumni Spotlight

Alumni Spotlight is an electronic newsletter produced by the Alfred University Office of Marketing and Communications and published periodically throughout the year. It aims to highlight news and accomplishments of our amazing alumni. Alumni news is included in the Class Notes section of the Alfred alumni magazine, which is published twice a year. The Alumni Spotlight newsletter serves to provide alumni news in the interim.

Hop Notch is top notch: award-winning brewery owned by alumnus Jeff Klossner ’19

A brewery opened a little more than a year ago by Alfred University alumnus Jeff Klossner ’19 is already earning recognition in the Watkins Glen-area business community. Klossner owns Hop Notch Brewing Company in Montour Falls, NY, which opened in September 2022 and was honored with the “Best New Business Award” by the Watkins Glen Chamber of Commerce.

Sue Herdman ’63 donates collection of artwork, photography to Meskwaki Nation

Sue Herdman ’63, an artist and photographer, recently donated a collection of photographs and original artwork to the Meskwaki Nation, Sac & Fox Tribe of the Mississippi in Iowa. The works, which depict members of the Sac & Fox Tribe, will be displayed in the Meskwaki Tribal Museum in Tama, Iowa.

Alfred University alumnus Don McPherson ’84 M.S., ’88 PhD, spoke recently at the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, DC, delivering opening remarks at an event to celebrate the museum’s launch of a program to loan EnChroma glasses to color blind visitors.

Exhibition by alumna Sharone Putter ’00 opens in Columbus, OH, gallery

Current artwork by Alfred University alumnus Sharone Putter ’00 is included in an exhibition that opened Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the Sarah Gormley Gallery in Columbus, OH. Putter, who earned a B.F.A. degree from Alfred in 2000, has work in an exhibition titled “Demarcations,” which features mixed media paintings.
