NEW YORK, NY: New
York State Democratic Chairman Jay Jacobs released the following statement
after four New York Members of Congress voted to defend controversial Georgia
Congressman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who openly touted “QAnon” conspiracy
theories doubting the 9/11 attacks, among other conspiracies disputed by fact.
“Yesterday’s vote in the House of Representatives was a
clarifying moment for every voter in the United States. The vote to deny Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene her
committee assignments was really a vote to either support White Supremacy,
QAnon crazy conspiracy theories, Anti-Semitism and the lie of a stolen election
or condemn it. There is no in-between
and there is no middle line to walk.
“It is despicable that in the state hardest hit by the 9/11
terrorist attack, Representatives Lee Zeldin (CD-1), Andrew Garbarino (CD-2),
Elise Stefanik (CD-21) and Tom Reed (CD-23) would vote to support someone that
has claimed that the U.S. Government, not Al-Qaeda attacked the World Trade
Center and that there was ‘no evidence’ that any plane hit the Pentagon. Let them tell THAT to the families of those
who perished in 9/11. This Misfit Four
supported a person who actually claimed that the California wildfires were
started by a Jewish laser beam from space.
Their disgraceful vote was in support of a Member who supported the
execution of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, former President Barack Obama and our former
Senator, Hillary Clinton in addition to threatening other Members of Congress.
“I would like to ask this Misfit Four; what cowardice does
it take to cast a vote in support of such a reprehensible set of views? What DOES a Member have to do, actually, for
you to muster the courage to do the right thing?
“These four Members of Congress are an embarrassment to New
York State and they insult every New Yorker – no, every American – by remaining
in the seats. Again, I call on them to
resign and I ask every voter in their districts to never excuse and never forget
the massive blot they have cast on our history for all time to come.”
