The GEMS awards recognize the outstanding achievements of
graduate students in Materials Science and Engineering. It is open to all
graduate students who make an oral presentation in any symposium or session at
the MS&T Conference. The 2020 conference was held in November.
Milisavljevic is in her fourth year in the ceramic
engineering doctoral program and is a student of Yiquan Wu, professor of
materials science and engineering at Alfred University. One of four finalists
for GEMS honors, she received the Diamond Award after delivering her oral
presentation titled “Solid-state single crystal growth of YAG by SPS
sintering.” The other three finalists earned Sapphire Awards.
Winners of the GEMS awards are chosen based upon the
scientific and academic accomplishments of the student, the quality of the
research presented, and the quality of the oral presentation.
