Bomb-like device left at Steuben County Mental Health Building

The Village of Bath Police Department reports the arrest of Mark Charles Burke, also known as Charlie Burke, age 59, homeless, of Bath, NY. The arrest stems from the investigation on December 4th, 2020 of a device resembling a bomb left at the Steuben County Mental Health Building, a public building, on Liberty St. in the Village of Bath. The device caused panic and alarm resulting in evacuations and the NYSP bomb disposal unit being called to the scene.

Mr. Burke was charged with Leaving a false bomb, a class D felony and processed and taken to the Steuben County Centralized arraignment court.

Mr. Burke has left and continues to leave suspicious and threatening letters and objects at various locations throughout the Village of Bath. Several agencies assisted in the criminal investigation to include the New York State Police and Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
