Alfred State remembers Sept. 11

Today, Alfred State remembers Sept. 11 and wishes to honor the victims and their families. We must also remember the heroic efforts of first responders who answered the call while endangering their lives. Flags will be lowered to half-staff. All faculty and staff are encouraged to observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m., the time that the first tower was struck. The campus bell-tower, rather than toll at hourly intervals, will make a single toll at the following times:

8:46 a.m. to remember the lives of those on American Airlines Flight 11 and those inside the North Tower
9:03 a.m. to remember those on United Flight 175 and those inside the South Tower
9:37 a.m. to remember those on American Airlines Flight 77 and those inside the Pentagon
10:03 a.m. to remember those on United Flight 93
You might consider ways to serve others during this time of remembrance. The Corporation for National and Community Service outlinesspecific ideas. On campus, one way to help is to donate needed items for The Plate Food Pantry (non-perishable food/personal care items) and the Pioneer Exchange thrift store (warm coats, scarves, clothing in general). Donations for both may be dropped off in the donation bin in the first floor hallway of Pioneer Center.
Please join our college family in honoring the memory of those affected, the thousands of families still impacted each day, and the incredible courage of so many who acted selflessly during and after the tragic events of that day.
