From the Town of Independence Police Department:
Residents, please beware of out of area contractors or strangers appearing at your door telling you need repairs to your residence or property. Please request to see their permit, which would be issued by the Town clerk. If the person fails to present a permit at your request, you should close your door and call the police. The only way contractors can appear without permits is when you, the resident, call and invite them to your property for work. These scammers will attempt to receive payment prior to any work being done. They will not return and you will be out the cash and service.
