Elmira, NY – Posting political yard signs are a traditional exercise in free speech, and popular candidates of both parties often experience suppression of their message via theft of their campaign signs; it just normally doesn’t happen within the first hours of them going up. Brian Batrowny, campaign manager of the Golden for Congress campaign, was shocked to discover yard signs he delivered in the morning in Chemung County were stolen or vandalized by the early afternoon.
“It is an expected part of politics that supporters of opposing candidates will remove yard signs. That fact doesn’t make it less disappointing when it happens to your candidate,” Batrowny said. “Our campaign is based on honesty and integrity, we have made it clear to our staff, volunteers, and supporters that we do not support the removal or destruction of other candidates’ signage.”
Batrowny light-heartedly added, “If someone wanted one of our signs, they could have just signed up for one on our website, GoldenforCongress.com.”
