Bernadette E. “Bernie” Taylor Devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister
and Friend
Bernadette E. Taylor, 68, of 3 Maple Street, Cuba, New York,
passed away peacefully at Cuba Memorial Hospital's Palliative Care Unit on
Sunday, December 31, 2017 with her family by her side. Born July 1, 1949 in
Olean, New York, daughter of Robert F. and Betty Wooten Cook. On February 14,
1982 she married Thomas T. Taylor who survives.
Bernie was a graduate of Olean High School's Class of
1967. She then received her Bachelor of
Science in Chemistry from St. Bonaventure University in 1971 and later returned
to receive her Master’s Degree in Education in 1980.
Her first teaching position was at the Bradford Area High
School for four years and then we went to work for Allegany Central School
(later Allegany- Limestone Central School) where she taught chemistry for the
next thirty years retiring in 2005.
During her career she always put her children first and was often
thought of as a very dedicated, devoted, and thoughtful teacher having numerous
impacts on her students lives. This
dedication was honored when she received the National Honor Society Teacher of
the Year Award in 2005.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and
sister who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, and she enjoyed
gardening and playing Words with Friends.
She was a member St. Bonaventure Band, where she shared her
talents of playing the Clarinet. She also Played Bells at Our Lady of Angels
Catholic Church, and was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Cuba and
its Vestry and the Altar Guild.
In addition to her husband Tom she is survived by her children
Jason C. Taylor of Cuba, Rebecca J. (Brian) Silverberg of Amherst and Jill T.
(Christopher) Roberts of Brighton;
Her grandchildren, Nathanial J. Taylor,
Natalie J. Taylor, Eric T. Silverberg, Lauren E. Silverberg, Adam Silverberg,
Graham T. Roberts, Jonathan A. Roberts; Several nieces and nephews; and many
special friends. She was also survived by a sister, Barbara Nelson of Palm
Harbor, Fl. She was predeceased by her parents and brother Robert “Mike” Cook. Friends
will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, 9
Bull Street Cuba on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 from 7-9 p.m. and again on
Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until noon at which time funeral
services will be held. The Rev. Carol
Stewart, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
