ANDOVER – Anne Yannie Corrado, 105, passed away Monday (Jan.
22, 2018) at Highland Health Care in Wellsville.
Mrs. Corrado was born on September 17, 1912 in Belmont to
Emilio and Maria (Serio) Yannie. She was a 1929 graduate of Andover High
School. She graduated from Fredonia Normal School in 1934 with her Bachelor’s
degree in music. After teaching in Angelica for a time, she pursued music
studies at New York University in New York City, where she taught art and music
at St. Josephs of Yorkville School. In 1957 she married Alfred Corrado, a French horn musician with
the NBC Orchestra, who preceded her in death on Nov. 27, 1965
Anne had a celebrated career as a gifted pipe organist. She
played in churches and cathedrals around the world. She also led choirs that
performed in respected venues such as the Lincoln Center and the National
Gallery for the Arts. Anne was on the paid staff of St. Joseph’s Church in
Manhattan where she was the organist and choir director for 47 years. She also
served at St. Monica’s Church and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church until 2005.
Locally, she spent summers at her family home in Andover for many decades, and
was a resident at the Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville several years.
She is survived by her sister Rose Boland of Potomac, Md.;
nieces and nephews Teresa Maloney Szabo (Tim), Woodbridge, Va., Louise D'anni,
Victor, Megan (Nolaig) Donnelly, Rochester, Patricia Pragle, Wayland, Maria
(Mark) Burne, Sarasota, Flor., Victoria (Bob) Dickenson, Mechanicsville,
Va.,Catherine (James) Lee, Culpeper, Va., Maureen Holt, Colonial Beach, Va.,
Joseph (Kathleen) Falconi, Bethesda, Md., Anthony (Grace) Yannie, Perkinsville,
Matthew (Kimberly) Yannie, Rochester, Christopher Holt, Windsor, Va.
Mark Holt, Andover; and a first cousin, Ursula (Brian) Gray,
Wellsville.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by five
brothers, Vincent Yannie, Emilio “Hank” Yannie, Jr., Victor Yannie, Joseph
Yannie and James Yannie and two sisters, Helen Catherine Yannie and Helen Holt.
Anne was gifted in music, art and poetry. She was a national
president of the Composers, Authors, and Artists of America (CAAA); and the
piano competition chairman for the National Society of Arts and Letters. In 1983,
she won the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Fredonia University Alumni
Association. As well as composing music, she is a published poet. Anne was also
a talented artist in oil painting, which she taught herself. While in New York
City, she built an award winning collection that included nearly 100 paintings.
Her work is held in several private collections. Anne was a generous woman and
was instrumental in helping the Fountain Arts Center restore the Belmont Hotel,
a building previously owned by her great uncle Felix Serio.
Friends may call on Friday from 5-7:00 p.m. at Baker-Swan
Funeral Home in Andover. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial held on
Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Andover. Burial will
