Curt graduated from Canisteo
Central High School in 1971 and from Alfred State College in 1973, where he
played baseball, with an associate’s degree as an electrician. He worked for
Carpet Town, Acker’s Quaker State, and for Air Preheater [ARVOS] from where he
retired from in 2016 after 30 years of service. At the time of his death he was
the President of the Wellsville Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed organizing the
annual “Camp Shoot”. Curt was also a member of the Wellsville Elks Club, as was
a member of the Wellsville Volunteer Fire Department, Genesee Hose Company,
where he was a fire policeman. He volunteered for the Wellsville Midget League
Football, Little League Baseball, and was the manager of the Southern Tier Lady
Lighting Fast Pitch Travel team for 6 years where he met many lifelong friends.
In his younger days he played men’s fast pitch softball for the Past Time Bar
and for Arnoys and Dye. He had umpired high school baseball, and was a long
time member of the Wellsville High School Football Chain Gang. Curt enjoyed
family cook outs and playing cards, golfing, fishing, and his love of the
outdoor and the camaraderie with his hunting pals was his passion. Curt was a
lifelong New York Yankees fan who had idolized Thurman Munson. In the last 3
years, in particular, were special to him as the love for his grandchildren
grew and it was a wonderful thing to watch.
Surviving besides his wife,
Dawnne are a son, Curtis A. “CJ” [Ashley] Loper of Wellsville; Lindsay Loper of
Olean; grandchildren, Miles and Averiella Loper; 3 brother in-laws as well as
several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He had been predeceased by
his parents, Donald and Beverlee Loper Sr., and his brother, Donald Loper Jr.
At Curt’s request there will
be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, January
20, 2018, at the Wellsville Elks Lodge starting at 1 p.m. Please consider
