Arkport - Donald Joseph Stauring, 81, of Mack School Rd., passed away unexpectedly Saturday (December 23, 2017) at St James Mercy Hospital.
Born in Herkimer, NY, June 6, 1936, the son of Harold and Delia Corrow Stauring, he had resided in Arkport since 1963. Don is a member of the Arkport United Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Don spent 40 plus years in the New York Army National Guard; during which time he served in Operation Desert Storm as well as several other operations locally. On September 18, 1959 he married the former Lucy Holmes who survives.
He was predeceased by his parents, 3 brothers; John, Morris “Chicky” and Leland Stauring and 6 sisters; Cecelia Fullmer, Edna DeForest, Priscilla Trask, Madelene Stauring, Elaine Stauring and Mary Flora Wells.
He is survived by his wife Lucy, 1 daughter; Lisa (Thomas) Boyle of Hornell, 3 sons; Craig (Mary Rose) Stauring of Belfast, Todd (Shelly) Stauring of Arkport and Joel (Yvonne) Stauring of Arkport, 9 grandchildren; Joshua, George and Chad Stauring, Shaun Boyle, Debra Avery, Michael Roberts, Patrick, John and Liliana Stauring, 9 great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017, at the Bender-Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St. Hornell and again on Saturday from 10-11a.m. at the Arkport United Methodist Church where a memorial service will be held immediately following calling hours at 11AM, Pastor Pam Carey officiating.
