Alfred State, Alfred University, Houghton, St. Bonaventure organize Students of Color Leadership Summit

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — Four area institutions are again partnering together to hold a one-day leadership conference for college students of color.
Alfred State, Alfred University, Houghton College and St. Bonaventure University will hold the annual Students of Color Leadership Summit on Saturday, Nov. 11, at Alfred State College.
Presentations will lay the foundation for this year’s theme of “A Call To Action!” The topics will speak directly to:
·         Student activism; when to act, how to mobilize, and the impact of action.
·         Social justice and inclusion in higher education.
·         Student leadership among minorities at historically white institutions.

“This year’s theme speaks to the importance of student activism,” said Parker Suddeth, coordinator of the Damietta Center for Multicultural Student Affairs at St. Bonaventure.
“The planning committee unanimously agreed that we needed to focus on student activism. Last year’s theme challenged students, faculty, staff, and other summit attendees to find their voice in their quest for social justice and inclusion. This year we felt the need more than ever to act now. One of the challenges that we’ve faced on each of our campuses is student apathy. This year’s leadership summit will revive students and equip them with the tools to act with compassion and care for all,” said Suddeth.
The event is open to all students who would like to attend.
St. Bonaventure students who have additional questions or would like to attend should contact Suddeth at psuddeth@ebu.edu by Tuesday, Nov. 7.
