Trooper Injured in Thruway Crash – Reminder to Move Over

On Friday, a New York State Trooper and two drivers were injured in a serious crash on the Thruway just west of Exit 26 in Schenectady County.

At 12:39 p.m., the Trooper was conducting a traffic stop on a Honda Odyssey when their patrol vehicle was struck by a passing semi-truck. The impact threw the Trooper over the guardrail and down an embankment. The Trooper suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Albany Medical Center. The driver and passenger of the Honda were taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam with minor injuries.
The crash closed all westbound lanes for several hours while emergency crews responded and investigated.
This incident is a powerful reminder: New York’s Move Over Law is not optional.
When you see emergency, police, fire, or highway crews on the shoulder — slow down and move over. Lives depend on it.
💙 We wish our Trooper a full and speedy recovery. 💙
