Update** The New York State Police are investigating a homicide followed by an apparent suicide that occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. on June 20, 2025, in the village of Addison, Steuben County.
Troopers responded to a reported shooting at a residence on Academy Street following a domestic-related incident. Preliminary investigation revealed that Ryan L. Chase, age 45, of Addison, NY, arrived at the residence and became involved in a dispute with Angelina M. Barney-Chase, age 43, of Addison, NY, and her 41-year-old male partner, Tomas Venegas. R. Chase reportedly left the location and returned a short time later, at which point he allegedly shot and killed the Venegas.
The suspect, R. Chase then fled the scene in a vehicle, which later crashed near Wall Street. Troopers located the R. Chase deceased in a nearby wooded area from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The female, Barney-Chase was not physically injured during the incident. Autopsies will be conducted to confirm the causes of death.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and the Addison Police Department.
The investigation remains ongoing. There is no threat to public safety, and no additional suspects are being sought.
