Senator O'Mara news release: O’MARA: ‘IT MAKES THINGS WORSE’

O’MARA: ‘IT MAKES THINGS WORSE’

Says a legislative session defined by out-of-control spending, pro-criminal
priorities, and economic uncertainty fails all New Yorkers

Albany, N.Y.— State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C-Big Flats) released the following statement on the close of the 2025 regular session of the New York State Legislature:

“All the talk from Albany Democrats at the start of this legislative session in January was about making New York State more affordable. Six months down the road and these same Democrats have enacted massive increases in state spending, continued to impose costly climate mandates on all New Yorkers, ignored any meaningful long-term tax relief, failed to strengthen our state’s economic competitiveness and standing, and relentlessly pursued an agenda of decline for New York.

“We needed to prioritize a comprehensive set of actions to focus squarely on the affordability challenges facing middle-class families, turn the tide on population loss, and make public safety job number one. That’s far from what’s been done this session. The bottom line is that the Albany Democrat commitment to a fundamentally far-left, extreme-liberal, out-of-touch agenda doesn’t get the job done for Upstate, middle-class communities, families, farmers, workers, small businesses, industries, or taxpayers. It makes things worse.

“Beginning with a new state budget representing the highest-ever level of state spending that will overburden state and local taxpayers for years to come, one-party, all-Democrat control has made New York State a tax-and-spend addict, a safe haven for lawbreakers, unaffordable for taxpayers, less attractive to job creators, and facing a dire economic future.

“It’s no way to run an effective or responsible government. It ignores affordability, common sense, and sustainability.”
