Obituary: Roger W. Mullen, "Moon," 84, Almond

ALMOND - Roger W. Mullen, known as “Moon” to many passed away on January 11, 2021. Roger is now in the hands of his Lord and Savior. Roger was born to Irving and Bess (Empson) in Alfred Station, NY on April 21, 1936. Roger graduated from Alfred-Almond Central School in 1955. On July 2, 1960 he married Betty Anne (Lowe) Mullen who predeceased him on April 29, 2015. Together they had 4 children, Laurie Anne (Gene) Polasik of Bainbridge, NY, Jeffrey Carl Mullen (fiancée Tara Brink) Almond, NY, Roger “Jamie” Mullen (infant son who predeceased him in 1973), and Mark (Heidren) Mullen of Germany. Roger is survived by 2 of his brothers (Alvah and James) and 1 sister (Wilma Root). His other 5 siblings (Harlan, Onalee, Robert, Virginia, Robert, and Ruth Marie) predeceased him. Roger was the proud grandfather of 2 grandsons, Michael and Eric Mullen, 5 granddaughters, Elizabeth, Julia and Amanda (Polasik) Hermance and Zoe and Eva Mullen. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and many, many friends.

Roger was a lifelong resident of Almond, NY. Roger joined the US Army in 1958 and was stationed in Iceland for almost 2 years before his honorable discharge. He then worked for A.L Blades for several years as well as a bartender for Harvey’s Restaurant. Roger was then employed by the Village of Alfred as the Village Superintendent. Roger worked for the Village for 29 ½ years before retiring. Roger enjoyed attending and watching NASCAR racing and watching the Buffalo Bills. One of his favorite things to do was mow lawns, he maintained the lawns at the Almond Community Church and the Hagadorn house. He was very fussy about all the lawns that he mowed. Roger was a member of the Almond Community Church, Loyal Order of Moose and the American Legion. Roger was a generous man, who would do most anything for everyone. He loved his family and was a devoted husband. He often took time out of his day to help anyone in need. Roger’s faith was very strong and he attributed his blessings in life to his wife’s faith and prayers for him. Services will be for immediate family only at their convenience. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Almond, NY. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Almond Community Church, 11 Main Street, Almond, NY, 14804.
