Great Lakes Cheese of Ohio considers major expansion in Allegany County

The Allegany County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) will conduct a virtual public hearing February 9th at 11 a.m. in connection with an application from Great Lakes Cheese Company of Hiram, Ohio. The Company asks for assistance in the acquisition in a portion of several properties of land totaling 210 acres on Trianna Road and Old State Road in Amity and County Road 20 in Angelica. In addition, the Company seeks the construction of a 486,000 square foot cheese manufacturing facility and a 50,000 square foot waste water treatment facility along with machinery and more. The IDA would provide certain financial incentives and tax breaks. If the IDA determines to proceed with the project, the facility would be acquired, constructed and installed and would be leased or sold back to the Company. The IDA has not yet made a determination. Great Lakes Cheese operates several facilities and has operated in Cuba.
