Flames damage a Town of Alfred home on New Year's morning. Alfred firefighters were alert shortly before 9 a.m. to respond to a house fire at 5511 East Valley Road. Dispatchers said "flames were showing." Additional help with crews and equipment was called in from Alfred State, Almond, Andover and Whitesville. There were no initial reports of injuries. According to Allegany County tax records, the home is described as an old-style home and owned by David and Victoria Byrnes. The cause is under investigation.
