Portville: State Police investigate domestic incident resulting in a Trooper-involved shooting

On January 1, 2021 at 1:30 a.m. Olean-based troopers responded to a violent domestic incident dispatched by Cattaraugus Sheriff’s Office (911) on Yubadam Road in Portville, NY.  After arriving at the residence and speaking with the victim, a male suspect, later identified as Ryan T. Ehman,40, advanced towards Troopers armed with a bow and arrow.  Troopers gave several commands to drop the weapon, and after he failed to comply a Trooper discharged his Division issued firearm, striking Ehman.  Ehman was taken into custody and transported to Erie County Medical Center via Mercy Flight for injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation, criminal charges are pending.

The new year began with a 40-year-old man shot in the 1700 block of Yuba Dam Road in the Town of Portville. The circumstances surrounding the shooting have not been clarified by state police. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. The victim sustained gun shot wounds to the arm and neck. He was taken to Portville school where he was picked up by Mercy Flight. An ambulance from Westons Mills was also requested to the initial scene to evaluate a second person. Troopers and Investigators from the Amity barracks assisted at the scene. Police have not yet made any official statement.
